Venison Stew

she gave us 3 small t-bone Steaks,
think they would have been
good on the BBQ as well
it was awesome !


  • 1-1/2 lb venison (we used steak)
  • 3 tbs olive oil
  • 3 1/2 cups mushroms
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tbs flour
  • 1 cup red wine (I used beef broth)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1tbsp red current jelly (or Maple Syrup)
  • 6 juniper berries crushed


  • bring onions to a boil (3mins) and drain
  • heat oil and sear meat to seal on the flavour & remove
  • add onions to pot to color add garlic and sprinkle in flour add wine and 1 cup water pinch of salt, add meat and mushrooms
  • put  in oven at 325f for 90 minutes
  • drain off liquid, reduce over heat add juniper berries and red currant jelly, bring to a boil and pout over the meat and onions.


I did this in a slow cooker on low for 8 hours added all ingredients to the slow cooker after searing the meat added onions, potatoes, celery and carrots and thicken with corn starch on high for the last hour.
